Chinese railway workers brought the game of Keno to the US sometime in the 1800's. Some say that the origins go back deeper, like 2000 years ago. Keno is similar to Lotto and became quickly a very popular. It is quite easy to play: is an exciting pastime and offers the possibility of winning large payouts on relatively small wagers.
The game originally started approximately with 120 numbers and was then dropped to the familiar 80 numbers in the 1900's. To make the game legal in Nevada, the numbers were changed to racehorse names and the name of the game was changed to "racehorse keno". In the today's well known version, each ticket is numbered from 1 to 80, corresponding to the numbered balls in the keno bowl from which 20 numbers are randomly drawn. Whoever wants to play, chooses or marks up to 15 numbers and wagers the amount. When each game begins, the randomly drawn numbers will appear on the keno board, a simple comparison to the selected numbers and the numbers drawn on the keno board will reveal the winner. The amount is dependant on the number of spot caught and the amount of money wagered.
